Look, I appreciate the subject as much as the next guy…who appreciates the subject. It’s got a good beat and most of the video has some pretty cool effects which according to stereogum:
The big special effect in this video has shown up a lot lately, from The Other Guys to those TNT promos. The method (from what I’ve read) is using a motion-capture camera that moves exactly the same way each take, then using background extras that are models and dancers, people really good at holding their bodies in one position for a long time. The dollar bills, tipped glasses, etc., are added in post-production, and any wires are removed. This video shows how it’s done. – Via Stereogum
Alright so cool, the song is about Kush, from what I gather the high makes shit freeze when you’re in the club sippin some Ciroc (which is actually pretty good as a side note). I guess I don’t know what I expect Dr. Dre to rape about now but I feel like Kush must be a pretty competative keyword at this point when searching for music videos. Oh and I wouldn’t think even Dr. Dre would get air traffic control to allow them to fly through a major city between buildings and shit but what do I know, it’s a documentary. Anyway, enough of the hate, enjoy the video.

February 19th, 2010What We're Listening ToVampire Weekend’s new video definitely doesn’t disappoint. A goofy Joe Jonas, Wu-Tangs RZA, Lil John and of course most importantly a drunk Jake Gyllenhaal. Vampire Weekend make a great choice for their next single if you ask me and the video more than delivers.

February 10th, 2010What We're Listening ToSo I have something to admit. I should come clean. It’s all too common for me to become so enamored with a band, musician, musical act, sparkly thing, whatever. I will repeatedly listen to nothing but one album for hours, days, sometimes I will even suffer months of addiction. I’m not horribly ashamed to admit it I suppose, I just generally keep it to myself. I spend a lot of time listening to music, I know I’m not nearly as knowledgeable about musical composition and production as Brent and I don’t have the encyclopedic knowledge of all things music like Kevin but I am an avid consumer.
Why did I waste your time right there? Well because I have what, I can guarantee is a new obsession. Yesterday Yeasayer’s new album Odd Blood hit stores and despite no previous knowledge of the band (ignorance I know) I have it. I’m not an album reviewer, I don’t have the background or skill set required but I do think I have a fairly good track record and ear for music to know when something will be or should much bigger than it was previously. I don’t pretend to obsess over the obscure, I’m not a pretend “Innovator” but I try to be an early adopter or at least in the early majority. (Yes we’re talking Everett Rogers here)
Now before I catch any shit from my fellow writers or potential readers for sounding cocky, listen, watch, enjoy.

January 10th, 2010What We're Listening ToAnimal Collective’s new music video for Brothersport is out and it’s true to their, “How much acid did I take with my morning OJ,” form. I enjoyed it, but then again, maybe I really am one of “those” people afterall.
