I guess a little introduction is in order.  So Brent was babbling on and on about his blog and how he didn’t know what to do with it when I came to the rescue.  I declared, “I wish to create a list of epic proportions,” his interest piqued.  ”We shall create a list of our top music for the decade we have just witnessed!”

I think it went something like that, I don’t know, don’t care.  What matters is I’m here, “gathering” everything I can get my hands on, checking out various review lists from the last decade getting ideas on how I want to do this.

So I’m still working out how this is going to work, I’m not really big on rules so much as guiding principles.  It has to have been released after December 31st, 1999 and prior to January 1st, 2010 (the future!)

***Order not yet decided*, suck balls**

    Amy Winehouse

    Animal Collective

Hate away as you will, sometimes they deserve it but most of the time they don’t. As far as I’m concerned they have turned what was at times obnoxiously experimental into one of the most solid contenders on this list. 2005 Seems to be the year I was most receptive to, “music that seems normal only to the insane.” I just couldn’t stop listening to Feels and Sung Tongs. I was kind of crazy in that period, I even spent the majority of an evening repeatedly listening to “Banshee Beat” until I had deciphered the lyrics…and no I wasn’t sober.
I won’t play the Animal Collective apologists, they clearly aren’t for everyone, in fact they aren’t even always for me but that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be on the list. Many
    Personal favorite track: Banshee Beat
Must listen to tracks: My Girls, For Reverend Green

    Arcade Fire

Fantastically full sound from their six million members. It really didn’t hurt them when “Wake Up” was featured in the Trailer for “Where the Wild Things Are” either. To be honest though this didn’t need it Pitchfork ranked this the #2 album of the 2000’s and the pretentious kids are right, this album is fantastic.
    Best Album: Funeral

    Armin Van Buuren

    Bloc Party

    Bright Eyes/Conor’s Shit

    Daft Punk

How couldn’t Daft Punk make the list? For a two Frenchman act they have huge appeal. Sure One More Time got old but can you blame Daft Punk for their own success? If you hadn’t heard of Daft Punk or their act before you might have seen the 2008 Grammy’s where they performed Stronger, a song derived from a sample of their original track.
For me, Alive 2007 is everything I had wanted from Daft Punk. Living in St. Louis nearly all of my life it’s unlikely Daft Punk is going to come visit me. Alive 2007 brought the Paris date of the Alive 2007 Tour to every one of us who can only dream of seeing them live. This is no shitty bootleg, this is retail quality Daft Punk performing Daft Punk, I think they capture their intentions much better than the DJ at your local club ever did. These Frenchmen have mastered Stadium filling dance music, I’d kill for a time machine that could take me back to August 3, 2007 where the headlined the AT&T stage at Lollapalooza.
    Best Album: Discovery
My Favorite Album: Alive 2007 Press play and make sure your sub woofers can take this album.

    Death Cab/The Postal Service

    Deftones

White Pony. What a fantastic album. This album is personally one of my favorite all time albums, I’m not totally sure, maybe it was the time period I first heard it. I haven’t even bothered to read other people’s reviews, Weezer’s blue album does the same thing for me. I might not like everything the Deftones have done but White Pony will forever be a goto album for keeping me awake through even the longest of drives.
