Beastie Boys – The In Sound From Way Out!

December 29th, 2009That One Weird Album
I heard a song off this album in the background of a local radio station the other day and I was like…”Maybe I should write about that.” The Beastie Boys are known for rapping and not their crunchy grooves but this one might change your opinion of that. They all play instruments and with a little help on percussion and keys, they really do make a great chill out jam kind of sound. It really is great background music for a low key party and my favorite track by far is “Ricky’s Theme”.What’s funny is where they got the name for this album which is actually considered the first modern electronic album with its groovy mod and moog sound. It is by Perrey & Kingsley and also titled The In Sound from Way Out!
Their music was definately groundbreaking and you can see a great performance of them from 1966 here. I have this CD but must be honest, it’s novel but it’s also not really my thing. However if you like this kind of stuff, I would refer you to a modern day artist who produces stuff in a similar style on a few tracks called, no joke, Monkeybacon.
